FUN WITH MONSTERS: THE MIND OF A CHILD
“Please, find my boy! He’s ran away before, but he’s never been gone this long before! Did I mention he’s an ogre? What? Don’t look at me like that! It’s a long story, but the big guy has a heart of gold. Speaking of gold, if you can find him, there’s a sizable reward. It shouldn’t be too hard, he’s almost nine feet tall.” Ogre’s...

5 Fun Character Flaws
A lot of players concentrate on their characters’ strengths, building a powerful caster, an agile sneak-theif, or a brutal barbarian warrior. Equally important though are the flaws in your character. These are generally skipped over entirely in the books, so here are a few examples to inspire you. A hero with problems, in my opinion, is a more interesting character than an alabaster statue....

5 Reasons to Play a Halfling
You’re Small! A lot of players look at this as a bad thing, but in 4th edition the only negative effect it has involves weapons. You can’t use two handed weapons, and you wield versatile (think bastard sword) weapons with two hands but don’t do extra damage like you normally would. If you’re a rogue or a caster, neither of these really affect you. One the plus side, you can...

6 Badass Nerdy Dads
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Father’s day is probably one of the most underrated holidays out there (right alongside Arbor Day) so I put together this list of the best nerdy dads that came to mind. Tell your own dad how awesome they are (remember, there is a zombie killing hero in all of us) and do something special together. Or if you’re too lazy, check out my list: 6. Doctor...

Nerd News: Sean Bean Stabbed in a Barfight
Who is Sean Bean? In Goldeneye, he played Alec Trevelyan. In the new Lord of the Rings movies, he played Boromir. In Game of Thrones (most importantly) he plays Eddard Stark. So basically he’s been an icon of badassery for over 20 years. Sean Bean, better known as Ned Stark (because actors are really just the alter egos of their best characters) was stabbed in a barfight yesterday....

Robin Williams is amazing (this is a link) →
Robin Williams (who would make a kickass Gandalf in my opinion, check the beard!) is apparently a longtime Zelda fan, as evidenced in a recent geekologie article.

Skavv's Rant: WALL-E is Pro-Murder
This one has been a long time coming… WALL-E was a great movie, up until and past the point where it advocated murder… but I’m going to start at the beginning. My first exposure to WALL-E was at a school-sponsored event a year or two ago. It was by far the greatest event, in simple concept, that I have ever attended.  Picture this: The entire commons area was cleared, college...

This is why I don't blog about computer games...... →
If you play computer games, Xbox games, or Playstation games, read this. Or if you plan to. Or if you know somebody who does. You get the idea. This might be the best Cracked article I’ve read, and illustrates exactly why I’ve been focusing my blog on tabletop games. I’m not really optimistic about the future of *puts on hipster glasses* mainstream gaming. I don’t like the...

5 Pit Traps to Avoid at the Table
If you aren’t careful about your spot checks, you’re bound to end up falling into one of these role playing pit traps. They don’t ruin you as a player by any means, but they do get in the way of a lot of unique role playing possibilities. These are slippery slopes that you should be aware of as you play any role playing game. 1: Broad Generalizations  The way the PHB is...

WatchWatch
My second song, “Warcrack” is still very rough. I need to polish out some kinks in this, but let me know what you think so far. Chords and lyrics below.  If this song upsets you, maybe it’s because there’s a bit of truth to it. I’m not particularly happy with this song yet, but I put most of my afternoon into it so I figure I will upload what I’ve got for...
