Nerd News: Two Bird Posts

So there are two Bird-related things to report today.

One is a real-life DnD Monster, the Lammergeier, a bird that apparently eats bones. Not bone marrow… bones. It drops them on rocks and eats them. This terrible bird also looks like this. And this. They dissolve bones in their stomachs. And throw up on their enemies, like cheerleaders. They have nine foot wingspans. Also, it apparently dropped a turtle on some guy. It isn’t a new animal or anything… I just thought the world should know that nature isn’t out of terrible things to terrify you yet.

In happier news Angry Birds Star Wars is out, and is brilliant. You should all go play it on your Android phones for free. Unless you have an iPhone (bad decision) which will run you a dollar. Or an iPad, which will be 3 dollars. In any case, enjoy flinging Jedi birds at Pigtroopers!

“So let me tell you about my sister…”

A good friend of mine referred me to this. I highly recommend listening to the whole thing, because it made my day.

The force is strong with this one.

One of the coolest things about Ewoks, for me, is the story behind their name. The word “Ewok” never appears in the Star Wars trilogy (I’m ignoring episodes 1-3, but it isn’t there either) at all. How did anybody know what to call them?Basically when they were included in Return of the Jedi, they had nothing resembling a name for the species, and it wasn’t until Lucas was developing a line of toys and extended fiction that the name Ewok (a sort of scrambling of “Wookie”) was coined.Call them what you will, at least they aren’t Gungans.
